Since Christmas is around the corner, making this animation feels festive. It was fun working on this assignment in Unreal. I actually like it better than Unity. It might be because the interface is similar to Adobe software.
Originally I wanted to animate the character to climb the ladder, but the direction the turning and climbing animation from Maximo was awkward. I played around with the location and rotation of them after importing to Unreal, but it was still unnatural and the character was walking below the floor. So, I decided to keep the character standing still. He's welcoming people to his house.
I encountered a few problems while working on it. One is to import downloaded assets, and another one is to export rendered videos. Finding a free resource that successfully converts files to either FBX and OBJ was challenging, which took the most time for me. After the conversion, it was convenient to just drop them in the screen. Sometimes the asset is not grouped together, I learned that I could drag every elements altogether and then group them in the Outliner. I solved the rendering problem by playing around with the settings for camera. At first, the rendered video is completely different from the preview video. I realized that it was because I didn't drag the CameraCuts setting all the way across the whole frames. Overall, it was a good learning experience. I will definitely keep practicing in Unreal
