For this week's assignment, I designed my own logo. It was a difficult process, and I went through a lot of iterations. For the logo, I wanted something that reflects my english and Chinese name as well as my style of writing and my personality.
Figure 1
I wrote down both of my names in print and in signature form, then I wrote down the words that I identify myself with. By playing around with my handwriting style, I actually saw a pattern and similarities of how I write both names even though they are different languages. As you could see from Figure 1, my handwriting is very flowy. It reflects my personality, which is to go with the flow. It also looks like someone is dancing.
The middle character of my Chinese name means art and design. I want to incorporate it into my logo because my passion is centered around art and design. I have never thought about the correlation until now. For other elements, I want to use my english name initials because it's very long to write out my whole name.
I wanted to find a font that I can work off on, but I didn't like all the calligraphy fonts. So, I decided to draw my logo with Illustrator and to find a font for my website/business card name.

I like clean and simple and friendly type face, so I choose Trade Gothic for header and Avenir for body. Here's an example with the two type faces below:
