How are you interfacing with the museum?
I used laptop and trackpad to navigate the virtual museum. The exhibit is "From Afar. Traveling materials and objects".
How do you navigate in? What works, what doesn’t?
I can't zoom in on things I want to see. The camera keeps moving after I zoom in. The clickable titles only show in french without translations. I have to click cancel button everyton the image. The quality of the zoom on images are very high detailed so I can see the finest details that I probably wouldn't have noticed in person.
What’s the atmosphere? Is it photo-real or stylized? Is there video or is it all stills?
No videos. Everything is still. The atmosphere is serious and elegant with simple layout.
What’s the interaction? Is there a one-to-one correspondence with the brick and mortar museum, or is the experience designed specifically as a digital experience? What works for you? What would you change?
There is no interaction. Besides clicking on the title and zoom in on objects, I just walked through the exhibit. I understand it means to be serious and appreciate the beauty of the objects. I wish I could see all objects in an interesting way instead of zoom in and zoom out. Through materials and objects, this exhibition describes exchanges between distant worlds – exchanges often far more ancient than the explorations of the 16th century. It would be cool to see an interaction that shows how or where the objects traveled.
Every place has an emotional, social and intellectual gestalt. Do your best to describe it.
Serious, heavy, and intellectual gestalt
A word (or two) for its personality?
Elegant and serious
A memorable object, exhibit, hall or interaction (person-to-person)
Is it a social environment (like VR) If so, how do people socialize at the museum? If it’s not a social environment, could it be? What would you change to make it a social environment?
It's not a social enviorbment. I don't see this exhibit to be a social experience. The objects are really beautful and the enviornment is serious and elegant. It's definitely for sophisicated adults who want to explore it by themselve.
Think about what behaviors the virtual museum space supports in regards to learning and engaging the content.
I wish I could have more control over the objects and text contents on the wall. It's hard to see the contents and navigate in the exhibit. Perhaps the experience is controlled because not all contents are in digital forms. Maybe add learning interaction feature that help users to engage more, like videos and map that shows how the objects were traded.
Spend a few minutes on the actual museum’s website.
The website seems like it's specific to the museum because the color and the overall astetics match the museum. I probably woudn't every go back to the website because it's hard to navigate. There are a lot of images based contents, but I get lost in the navigation because the title and wordings are confusing, which might have something to do with translations.
